Youth Tour

Each year, Southeast Electric joins other electric cooperatives across the U.S. to send appx. 1,500 students to Washington D.C. for a week with all expenses paid.

Educating today's generation on becoming active and engaged in the political process has become the focus of the electric cooperatives Youth Tour.

Guidelines:

Southeast Electric Cooperative will sponsor one student whose parents are members of Southeast Electric Cooperative to attend an all-expense-paid, week long trip to Washington DC as part of the NRECA 2012 Youth Tour to Washington DC scheduled June 15 - 22, 2012.

To apply, the student must write an original essay and submit it to Southeast Electric for judging by the coop's Scholarship Committee. The Youth Tour Contest Rules are as follows:

  1. The student must be a junior or senior in high school in the fall of 2012.
  2. The student and/or parent or guardian must be served by Southeast Electric Cooperative Inc.
  3. The student must write an essay on the following: "Imagine a weeklong power outage in your neighborhood, or interview someone who remembers life before electricity. Without electricity, how would your day-to-day life be different?"
  4. Essays must be submitted to Southeast Electric Cooperative by Friday, November 11, 2011 at 5:00 pm.
  5. Essays must include the completed attached cover page together with our application form.
