The applicant must submit a completed application form, which is available at Southeast Electric office in Ekalaka. Applicants or parent/guardian must be a member of Southeast Electric. The applicant must also detail how applicant’s school/community/work activities will influence his/her goals and career choice. One letter of recommendation should be submitted with the application.
The scholarship applicant may be either a graduating high school senior entering his/her freshman year at a college or vocational technical school, or a current college undergraduate student. Graduate students are ineligible.
The scholarship may be used at a Montana college/university or vocational school, or at an out-of-state institution.
All applications must be submitted to Southeast Electric no later than
January 31, 2008.
Selection of scholarship recipients will be based as follows:
Southeast Electric will select scholarship finalists. The MECA Scholarship Committee will then choose the two scholarship recipients from the list of finalists. In 2007, Nathan Carroll, of Carter Co. High School was one of the two recipients for this scholarship.
A scholarship certificate announcing the award will be presented to recipients in May, in time for recognition during graduation ceremonies. Scholarship funds will not be dispersed until proof of enrollment in the college/university or vocational technical school is received by MECA. Once proof of enrollment is received, the monies will be sent directly to the financial aid office of the chosen school. Scholarships must be claimed by December 31, 2008 or the money will be forfeited.
The scholarships are funded from donations provided in memory of rural electric directors, employees and friends.
Southeast Electric offers three catagories of scholarships annually.

Each year, Basin Electric Power Cooperative, awards one $1,000 scholarship to a student of a member consumer. The scholarship can be used to assist in paying for the costs of the student's college education. The applications are available in December, 2007, and need to be returned by January 31, 2008. Please contact Southeast Electric for an application or contact your high school career advisor.
